Accessibility Award!

Congratulations Metro Vancouver and KEEPS!
The new Bell-Irving Hatchery and Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre project was recognized with an award from the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues (MACAI) for Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The MACAI focuses on eliminating the social, physical and psychological barriers that prevent people with disabilities from fully partaking in their community. The committee’s main purpose is to create equal access in the areas of employment, education, housing, transportation and recreation.
Metro Vancouver and KEEPS are proud to be a recipient of this award on behalf of The Bell-Irving Hatchery, all project partners and the community. This new facility and the Stewardship Centre to come are for the entire community and the region, and are intended to provide equal access for all. Perhaps one of the greatest accessible features of the new hatchery is the large front window that enables children, youth, and adults of all ages to get close and see into the hatchery even if they require a wheelchair or are peering out from a stroller! Now that Phase One of the Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre is complete, we can assure you that the second phase will be even more spectacular!
