Clean Water in BC?

According to the recent article in The Province on August 6th, it appears that there is much we do not know about the quality of water and amounts we have in BC Water is a valuable resource in BC, “vital to our economy, environment and health.” 

Here are 8 facts about BC’s water:

      1. Metro Vancouver is one of Canada’s two top problem regions.
      2. No one seems to know if levels of toxic substances in Vancouver’s Coal Harbour are continuing to rise.
      3. BC has no province-wide reporting system for water.
      4. The groundwater drawn from BC’s wells is largely unregulated.
      5. Clean drinking water remains out of reach for more British Columbians than you may think.
      6. Every year during heavy rains, Vancouver waters are flooded with untreated sewage.
      7. BC doesn’t have the same mandatory drinking water quality testing as other provinces.
      8. The fundamental laws governing water use in BC are a century old.

But one day we may not have the same luxuries with our water supply. We encourage British Columbians to become more educated about our water and the things they can do.
