Take Me Out

There are 168 hours in a week.

According to Explorations Early Learning, LLC, of the 168 hours in a week, school-aged children spend approximately:

  • 56 hours sleeping
  • 49 hours using electronic devices
  • 34 hours in school
  • 12 hours eating
  • 5 hours doing homework, and over
  • 1.5 hours being transported from place to place

This leaves less than 11 hours for everything else, begging the question – when do children play?

If these statistics are in fact valid, children are spending almost as much time on electronic devices as they are sleeping. Even if the full remaining 10.5 hours in a week were allocated to playing outside, it would only equate to approximately 21.4% of the time spent on electronic devices.

On October 25, 2012, participate in Take Me Outside Day. Unplug, leave your phone at home and head out to a park to enjoy nature.

Prioritize play. Get your children outdoors.
