Catching the Spirit Youth Society is a long-term partner of Pacific Parklands Foundation. Over the past several years we have worked with them to provide funding for their amazing programs. If you are not familiar with the society, Catching the Spirit (CTS) runs outdoor education programs offered free of charge to the youth of Metro Vancouver.
CTS is designed and run by youth, offering young people from all backgrounds and ages (12-18) an opportunity to connect with the environment, their community and each other. The cornerstone of CTS is the delivery of summer camps. The camps provide an inclusive and respectful environment for youth to connect with nature, learn outdoor skills and participate in environmental stewardship activities. Typical stewardship activities include invasive species removal, native planting and stream monitoring.
This past weekend marked the final camp for the summer and we’ve been told it was a season to remember. With camps taking place at Capilano, Pacific Spirit, Burnaby Lake and Tynnehead, the programs reach was vast, attracting participants from several municipalities across the region.
The end of the summer season is always a milestone for staff and participants. It is a time to reflect on the highlights of the season, and a time to prepare for the upcoming year. Congratulations on another great summer CTS!
