Summer is almost here and Catching the Spirit is gearing up for another eventful season!
CTS is already at 98% capacity, with only 8 spots available for their Spirit Stewart (weekend) camps this summer. There are 331 individual people registered for this year (334 in 2011) and many of them are new to the program. There are also several people waitlisted for camping and only 6 of the 29 camps are not full.
The Spirit Ranger (day) program has approximately 320 of 420 spots filled. It is expected to be near capacity in July.
All of these camps are supported by a leadership team of Supervisors (3 returning from last year) and 40 Peer Leaders. These leaders are currently in the final stages of their leadership training, which has included leadership/team building training days, a weekend of Peer Leader training at Camp Capilano, first aid training and park training sessions.
Unfortunately, this summer will be the last CTS summer for the fabulous Program Director, Natalie Haltrich who will be leaving her position at the end of September. Both CTS and PPF are sad to see Natalie go, but are happy to say she will remain involved as a special advisor to the CTS Board. CTS is currently in the process of hiring a new Program Director and will have a person in place for August 1. This will provide for 2 month transition period, and allow the new director to be fully involved in all aspects of the program, prior to Nat’s departure.
