The Gordon Smith Youth Environmental Stewardship Award
Gordon Smith was dedicated to serving people and the environment and was one of the finest people many of us ever met. He was passionate about stream and wetland stewardship and very active in conservation projects in Aldergrove and Delta.
To inspire others to follow his path, his friends and colleagues have initiated the “Gordon Smith Youth Environmental Stewardship Award”. This endowment fund provides an annual bursary to a student for his/her contribution to conservation in the region.
This year was a special one for the Gordon Smith Youth Environmental Stewardship Award nominations. We had many strong applicants but the selection was narrowed down to two outstanding young volunteers. Jason Pang, this year’s winner is a Grade 12 student aiming to pursue Environmental Sciences at UBC and continue to impact youth and adults alike far beyond his local community. Griffin Andersen, also a Grade 12 student, was a close runner up and with his experience volunteering at Mossom Hatchery and Noon Creek Hatchery. Griffin was also a winner of the Dr. M. Wosk Environmental Leadership Award in 2017. Since that time Griffin has continued to participate in a great many conservation, stewardship, and networking activities. Both of these exceptional winners are able to pursue their like-minded goals of forwarding conservation through the generosity of the Gordon Smith Youth Environmental Stewardship Award.
Funding Your Values
We consider it to be a privilege to administer the Gordon Smith Award and the Dr. M. Wosk Environmental Leadership Award. Their legacies have allowed us to broaden opportunities for driven individuals inspired by the actions of beloved community members. By creating an award program, legacy donors can fund what they value most and be recognized for their influence within their community. If creating a legacy program appeals to you, please reach out to us so we can find the best way to honour your interests for future generations and our regional parks.
