Pacific Parklands Foundation has been working with Metro Vancouver, UBC’s Media and Graphics Interdisciplinary Centre (MAGIC) and Sense Tecnic Systems to develop a technology based outreach program that engages youth and others in parks-based activities that explore the concept of “natural capital” and more. The Friending Mother Nature program uses social networks and smartphones to engage people inways that are fun, educational and rewarding.
Park Quest is designed to get youth out in the regional parks. Based around a series of ‘quests’, users are challenged to complete tasks, solve puzzles and play real-world games – all while learning about the natural world around them!
The soft launch occurred in June at Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Park Quest starts with three fun quests: Find & Photo, Night Quest and the Camosun Bog Scavenger Hunt. All three use QR codes, GPS and social networking to engage players, their friends and the greater parks community in real world activities that are both entertaining and educational.
The official launch is scheduled for Thursday July 26, 2012. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail email@example.com and look out for new quests to be added to the Park Quest community throughout the summer!
