For those of you who have not heard, last Thursday March 22, 2012 was World Water Day.
In honour of World Water Day, Shell Canada offered 50 bonus votes for the current Shell FuellingChange grant competition. These bonus votes can be redeemed until this Thursday March 29, 2012 using the following promotional code: t73-tIIse5H
If you have not already, please access your account, enter the promotional code and cast your 50 bonus votes in favour of the Pacific Parklands Foundation’s project. You can find PPF under the $100,000 category.
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of Metro Vancouver’s regional parks. There are 22 such parks in and around the Lower Mainland, covering more than 10,000 square hectares. These are likely the parks that you, your family, your friends and even your co-workers use on a regular basis without even thinking. In other words, we work together with government, businesses, community leaders, other non-profit organizations and groups, and individuals to raise funds to expand and improve the parks you use in ways that go beyond the basic necessities.
The specific project this grant will support (if we win it with your help and support) is called the Pond Ecological Restoration for Kids (i.e. PERKs for Parks). Through a community based ecological restoration project, PPF will increase habitat and educational value and improve the ecological health of Centennial Beach pond located in Boundary Bay Regional Park. The main goal is to restore pond ecology and increase biodiversity in and around the pond to improve the water and overall habitat quality. The second goal is to engage local community groups to assist with the restoration, implementation and development of educational opportunities of the restored pond for the one million people, primarily school-aged children and their families, that visit the park each year.
This project helps the environment by restoring pond ecology and consequently attracting a wide variety of bird species as it is a key stop on the Pacific Flyway. It will also serve as a great bat habitat, increase biodiversity, and allow flora and fauna to once again flourish.
So spread the word to your friends, family and co-workers and save your Shell Canada receipts to help us win a $100,000 grant. We need to be in the top 2. We are currently in third place but the competition is open until April 30, 2012 so please head to http://www.fuellingchange.com/main/project/224/Pond-Ecological-Restoration-for-Kids-PERK and get your 50 bonus votes while you still can! After that, keep voting and help us win a $100,000 for an amazing local project!
