Excited for EcoBlitz!
This year marks the 6th annual EcoBlitz community stewardship event! EcoBlitz began with the goal of restoring, enhancing, and protecting the plants, waterways and wildlife in Metro Vancouver Regional Parks. Stewardship and conservation activities include the removal of invasive pants, the planting of native trees, shrubs, and ground covers, and the removal of garbage and litter. Volunteers have managed to rid the parks of thousands of pounds of Himalayan blackberry, English Ivy and many more invasive species, while also planting hundreds of native trees to populate our parks.
EcoBlitz aims to benefit the regional parks with the happy coincidence of also building strong communities. Past participants in this event have included multiple schools, organizations, businesses and park associations which have led to amazing connections among community members and made for a wonderful bonding opportunity for participating groups.
Want to get your hands dirty?
EcoBlitz events are happening all around the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks from October 19th to October 27th with most groups meeting on weekends. Volunteers can find out about activities by going to meetup.com and searching ‘regional parks’ to be directed to the Metro Vancouver Ecological Restoration Team meetup page.
Volunteers will be provided with gloves, gardening tools and a strong feeling of community pride.
