Kanaka Creek Reforestation Project

On Sunday September 23, the Lower Mainland Green Team participated in the Kanaka Creek Reforestation Project.

Thanks to Canon’s Take Root Program Presented by Evergreen, Pacific Parklands Foundation was able to secure $5,000 for this project and with the help and dedication of KEEPS (Ross Davies) and Metro Vancouver, the Lower Mainland Green Team jumped at the opportunity to help out.
  • 40 volunteers contributed 100 hours
  • Of the 40 volunteers, 30 had never been to Kanaka Creek Regional Park, 31 had never planted native plants and trees in a park before
  • Volunteers came from Maple Ridge, Mission, Chilliwack, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Surrey, Langley, White Rock and Burnaby
  • We planted 500 native plants and trees (These included: Pacific Crabapple, Bitter Cherry, Bil Leaf Maple, Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Indian Plum, Salmonberry, Beaked Hazelnut, Red Elderberry, Snowberry, Thimbleberry, Nootka’s Rose, Pacific Ninebark, Black Hawthorn Coastal, Pacific Willow, Black Twinberry, Hooker’s Willow)
