Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, Canada’s poorest postal code, is not known for its green spaces or healing atmosphere. Instead, it’s known for trauma, poverty, addiction, and misery. Many women living in the Downtown East Side are vulnerable and isolated and have no opportunity to experience the healing powers of nature. Some have never been out of the city!Pacific Parklands Foundation recognized the need to help these women access the healing powers of nature. The Foundation provided a $2,000 grant to Forest and the Femme, a registered society that connects our region’s most disadvantaged women to nature and aims to facilitate a sense of freedom, empowerment, and self-worth. The grant from Pacific Parklands Foundation helped them purchase a vehicle so that the women could explore the parks and other wilderness places in the Lower Mainland and help heal their souls.
