Mark Angelo, CM, Order of British Columbia and dear friend of Pacific Parklands Foundation, is an internationally-celebrated river conservationist, writer, speaker, teacher and paddler. He is the founder and chair of both BC Rivers Day and World Rivers Day, an event embraced in more than 60 countries. As an avid kayaker, canoeist and rafter, Mark has traveled on or along close to a thousand of the world’s rivers spanning well over one-hundred countries.
Now Mark is preparing to release his latest documentary, RiverBlue
“How dirty are your jeans?” RiverBlue uncovers how the fashion industry plays part in destroying our world’s rivers.

Please see below for a message from Mark about his film:

RiverBlue is the feature-length documentary film we’ve embarked on to help stem the pollution of all rivers with the aim of better protecting our vital waterways. In order for distribution of this film to be possible, we need the support of river advocates world-wide to show there is a global audience for this international production.

During the past two years, we have been on an around-the-world river journey in quest of learning more about the state of our waterways. In many ways, our global adventure was unprecedented and what we found was truly disturbing – in effect, a state of crisis.

Our entire trip was documented and forms the basis of the upcoming feature film, RiverBlue, due in theatres later this year. RiverBlue is one of the most ambitious and, we believe, important river documentaries ever filmed. The movie speaks passionately about the need to protect all rivers, which are lifelines in the truest sense. Along the way, we also managed to capture a number of fascinating personal stories about those battling to save local waterways. In the midst of our filming, we chose to give particular focus to the textile sector having discovered that the garment and leather industries are often a notorious, yet under-reported, cause of toxic industrial pollution.”
