Pacific Parklands partnered on a ground-breaking study, Natural Capital in BC’s Lower Mainland.
WHAT WE VALUE, WE WILL PROTECT AND PRESERVE
For the first time, an economic value was placed on the region’s natural capital – its forests, fields, wetlands, and waterways.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT’S AT RISK
Our region is experiencing rapid growth and urbanization. With the population expected to grow to more than 3 million residents by 2020, the strain on our ecological treasures will become even more intense.
This study of BC’s Lower Mainland estimated the value of our region’s natural capital as $5.4 billion.
“It is our hope that reports like this one will help to cultivate a deeper appreciation of the true value of nature and ensure that the vital green spaces within and around our communities are protected, restored and enhanced.”
